Bespoke Fitted Furniture in Scotland
Fitted furniture solves the problem almost every Scottish home shares: rooms that were never designed for the furniture sold in shops. Victorian and Edwardian properties in Edinburgh and Glasgow come with deep chimney breasts, high skirting, decorative cornicing and alcoves that no standard sideboard will ever sit flush against. Nineteen-thirties semis have shallow bays and awkward corners. Modern new-builds in West Lothian and Fife are efficient but tight, where a few centimetres of wasted depth genuinely costs you storage. Bespoke fitted furniture takes those constraints as the starting point rather than an obstacle.
We have been designing and installing fitted furniture from our Livingston workshop for years, with more than 200 completed installations across Central Scotland. The same team surveys your room, draws the design, machines the components and fits them — which is why the finished units sit tight to uneven walls, the doors line up, and the lighting is wired in rather than hanging off an extension lead.
Fitted Alcove Units and Chimney Breast Storage
The most common request we receive is for the two recesses either side of a chimney breast. Left alone they collect clutter; filled properly they transform a room. Our typical design pairs low base cabinets with soft-close doors or drawers, a run of floating shelves above, and a lit display niche at eye level. Because the units are scribed to the wall, there is no gap behind, no dust trap underneath, and no wobble when the room is busy. Add painted panelling behind the shelves and the whole wall reads as architecture instead of storage.
We also build asymmetric layouts for rooms where one alcove is deeper than the other, a very frequent quirk in tenement conversions. Rather than forcing symmetry, we balance the design visually — a taller cupboard on one side, a deeper shelf run on the other — so the eye reads it as intentional.
Fitted Wardrobes, Home Offices and Under-Stair Storage
Bedrooms are where fitted furniture pays back fastest. Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes reclaim the dead space above a freestanding unit, and interiors are configured around what you actually own: long hanging for coats and dresses, double hanging for shirts, deep drawers for bedding, shoe racks at the base. In loft conversions and dormer bedrooms we scribe wardrobes into sloping ceilings, using the low-height sections for drawers and shoe storage where hanging would never fit.
Home working changed what people ask us for. Fitted desks with cable management, printer cupboards, bookshelves and monitor-height shelving now feature in landings, box rooms and living room alcoves. Under stairs, we build push-to-open cupboards, pull-out shoe stores and boot-room benches that turn one of the least useful volumes in the house into daily storage.
Wall Panelling and Feature Detailing
Panelling is the fastest way to add depth to a flat wall without losing floor space. We fit fluted and slatted timber panelling, painted shaker frames, half-height wainscoting and full-height feature walls, all colour-matched to your existing scheme. Panelling also works brilliantly as a backdrop to fitted cabinetry or a bespoke media wall, framing the television and fire rather than leaving them floating on bare plaster.
Fitted Furniture With Integrated Electric Fires and Lighting
A large share of our work combines cabinetry with a recessed electric fireplace and concealed LED lighting. Models such as the Gazco eReflex 150RW and Avanti 150RW sit flush within the joinery, with the fire, TV recess, shelving and lighting planned as a single composition. Warm-white LED strips behind shelves, colour-changing lighting in display niches and dimmable uplighting all get wired during the build, controlled from a remote or a wall switch. Bespoke fitted furniture from West Lothian Feature Walls typically starts from around £1,500 for a single alcove unit or run of floating shelves, and rises to £12,000+ for full-wall installations combining cabinetry, panelling, lighting and an integrated electric fireplace. Every project is priced individually after a measured survey, so the figure you receive is the figure you pay.
Do you make fitted wardrobes as well as living room furniture?
Yes. Alongside media walls and alcove units we build fitted wardrobes, under-stair storage, home office desks and shelving, window-seat storage and full-height cabinetry. Everything is manufactured in our Livingston workshop to your room's exact dimensions rather than assembled from standard carcass sizes.
How long does fitted furniture take from order to installation?
Most projects run 4–8 weeks from approved CAD drawings to a finished install. The on-site fitting itself usually takes one to three days depending on the size of the run, whether wall panelling is included, and whether we are wiring in LED lighting or an electric fire.
Which areas of Scotland do you cover for fitted furniture?

Is fitted furniture better than freestanding furniture?

Yes, and it is one of our most popular combinations. We recess Gazco eReflex, Avanti and FireFX electric fires directly into fitted cabinetry, then add concealed warm-white or colour-changing LED lighting behind shelves and beneath floating units, controlled by remote or smart switch.
